Dancing Ministry
HOW TO DANCE?
Before Him just like David danced before the Lord with all his might! See 2 Sam 6: 14,16,21.
DANCE: With tambourines as instruments of praise
Psalm 150: 4 "Praise Him with tambourines and dancing; praise Him with the strings and flute."
Psalm 81: 1, 2 "Sing for joy to God... begin the music, strike the tambourine..."
Psalm 68: 25 "In front are the singers, after them the musicians, with them are the maidens playing tambourines."
DANCE: With tambourines in a processional prophetic dance
I Samuel 10: 1-11 Recounts how Saul, right after being anointed as king, was told by Samuel to join a procession of prophets at Gibeah who were prophesying as they played their tambourines. When Saul did this God changed him into a different person. The Good News Version uses the expression "religious dancing" and "ecstatic dancing and shouting" to describe what took place in this processional dance.
DANCE: With tambourines as weapons in spiritual warfare
Psalm 144: 1 "Praise be to the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle."
Isaiah 30: 32 "The voice of the Lord will shatter Assyria; with His scepter He will strike them down. Every stroke the Lord lays on them with his punishing rod will be to the music of tambourines and harps as He fights them in battle with the blows of His arms.”
Tambourines are not just musical instruments but powerful weapons available to us. Let us keep in mind that our struggle is not against flesh and blood; let us join the children as they sing, We are in the Lord's army... We need to see ourselves as part of the Lord's army knowing that we are "...strong in the Lord and in His mighty power" Eph 6:10.
DANCE: With banners
Psalm 20: 5 "We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the Name of our God..."
Numbers 2: "The Israelites are to camp around the Tent of Meeting some distance from it, each man under his standard with the banners of his family."
Psalm 118: 27 "The Lord is God and He has made His light shine upon us. with boughs in hand, join in the festal procession..."
Banners, flags, cloths and ribbons can be used in a effective way to bring forth a message and express with dancing our joy and victory in Jesus.
Just as the Israelites were told by God to camp under their own standard with the banners of their families we can also tell others that we belong to the Lord of lords as we hold up our flags in His Name.
Let us find encouragement in Exodus 17:15 which says the Lord God is our banner (Jehovah Nissi) so each time we raise up our flags we will symbolically declare to others that God is our banner.
DANCE: With our hands
Psalm 47: 1 “Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with shouts of joy.” The Word of God even says that, "...all the trees of the field will clap their hands" Isaiah 55:12c and in Psalm 98:8 it says, "Let the rivers clap their hands..."
Psalm 63: 4 "I will praise you as long as I live and in Your name I will lift up my hands."
Psalm 134: 2 “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord.”
Psalm 119: 48 "I lift up my hands to Your commands, which I love..."
Psalm 143: 6 "I spread out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You..."
Psalm 141: 2b "...may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice."
I Tim 2: 8 "I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer..."
Whether we clap for joy or lift up our hands to praise God in a dance, we show our dependance on Him. With our hands lifted up we show that we surrender to God and that we seek and welcome His touch.
DANCE: With our feet
Acts 3: 8b "Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God."
Rom 10: 15 "And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
Psalm 119: 133 "Direct my footsteps according to Your Word; let no sin rule over me."
Psalm 17: 5 "My steps have held to your paths, my feet have not slipped."
Psalm 37: 23 "If the Lord delights in a man's way He makes his steps firm."
Psalm 121: 3 "He will not let your foot slip..."
Rom 16: 20 "...I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet..."
Each step our feet take as we dance before the Lord is directed by God to bring forth His praises.
DANCE:With our bodies
Psalm 63: 1 "...my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you..."
Psalm 84: 2 "My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God."
Rom 12: 1 "...offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship."
Psalm 5: 7 "But I by Your great mercy will come into Your house; in reverence will I bow down toward Your holy temple."
Psalm 95: 6 "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker."
Psalm 138: 2 "I will bow down toward Your Holy Temple and will praise Your Name."
Rev 4: 10 "The twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and worship Him..."
Psalm 145: 14 "The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down."
Acts 17: 28 "For in Him we live and move and have our being."
We are not just spirit and soul, we have a body too, and the Lord delights Himself as we bow down before Him, surrendering and worshipping Him.
How to dance before God is something we learn as WORSHIP becomes a lifestyle and not something we do only on a Saturday.
 WHY DANCE FOR THE LORD?
1) GOD is the creater of heaven and earth, and everything that exists, exists because He created it. So---that includes dancing. And, isn't it fitting that just as GOD created the song, and we offer up our voices in worship to Him, we should offer up our dancing to Him in pure & holy worship?
2) Romans 12:1-2 says "therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer up you bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to GOD - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind..." what do we use to dance with? Our BODIES...so, according to this scripture, our spiritual act of worship in offering out bodies as sacrifices to Him. and "do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world" our dance in worshipping the LORD is different than what you see out in the world! When you stop dancing or the world, and start dancing for the LORD, you must be transformed to be pure when you dance or Him.
